Project: You Are Beautiful

- large scale signs
- sticker campaign

"commissioned art loses social power" -  I don't necessarily agree with this statement, though I can understand that if there is a request for a certain design or content within the artwork then it loses its value as social activism.

Positive Messages

// cliche and generic positive messages.. in an unoriginal and not so creative typographic design.

Said Dokins is a Mexican calligraffiti artist that has been creating murals across the globe in response to catastrophic events such as child abductions, leaving a design to commemorate them.

Neils Shoe Muelman // calligraffiti style of handwriting on walls. brings beauty of calligraphy into street art

Garbage Beauty

Creators of the Garbage Beauty project, Vincent Box and Romain Boz, went around the streets of Montreal at night defacing and creating new beautiful imagery on the citizen's trash, old TVs, fridges, and monitors. Some designs were purely aesthetic, writing 'garbage beauty' on stuff before the garbage men came to collect and take to landfill. Other messages began to have more meaning, "a passport is better" on a widescreen TV. Although not intended at anyone in particular, people out early enough to see the pieces before they were taken would have been pleasantly surprised to see calligraphic work brightening the trash in their neighbourhood.

These typewriter style messages pasted up give passers by small, inspiring quotes in the form of 'letters' written on typewriters.
