OUGD403 - Changing Typefaces

After learning about the terminology used in typography, in groups we had a go at changing an existing typeface (just one letter) from both serif to sans serif, and vice versa.

Our group was given a lowercase, sans serif 'm' which we had to adjust to make it a serif font.  To do this we discussed where the serifs would go on the letter, as well as choosing to include brackets.  We kept the font weight the same as the sans serif version.

We were then given an uppercase, serif 'A' to transform into a sans serif typeface.

This time we decided that we should change the weight so the adjoining stems were of an equal size, fitting with the more uniform weight that sans serif fonts carry.  We experimented by moving the crossbar of the 'A' further down and higher up.  Also we reduced the caps height by flattening the point of the 'A', thickening the overall image.
